About this video:
The Cassiar Asbestos Mine shut down in 1992 when the company went into bankruptcy. "The Cassiar Road" was a film produced and filmed around 1960 that documented the early days of the asbestos mine. An old 16mm copy of this film was found in an abandoned building at the old Cassiar mine site by one of the town's former residents, who had the presence of mind to gather it up for safekeeping. He then had it digitized at his own expense and provided us with a copy to help preserve for historical purposes. The film was made in the early days and gives an interesting perspective on asbestos mining and the creation of a town out of the wilderness. We found it very interesting that the placer mining shots at the beginning of the film are taken on Holloway Bar! We hope you enjoy it!
