By mid to late October, most of the leaves have fallen from the trees and the snows are working their ways down the mountains towards the valley bottoms. Good Hope Lake has taken on a mirror-like quality and adds its own tint of greens to the reflection of the mountains in its waters. Now, a couple of weeks later, the snows have reached the ground and the area lakes will be soon freezing as the temperatures have been steady around -15 C most days.

Horseranch Lake, about 30 miles north-east of Holloway Bar, was the location of a fly-in wedding a few years ago. Northerners often must travel by air to get to places like this, some 20 miles from the nearest road. The bride and bridesmaids also arrived by air for the wedding ceremony. Here's a few of the aircraft that brought people to this celebration on the shores of this lovely turquoise-coloured lake. A good time was had by all involved...

Most travellers never see this sign in the condition it's in most of the year as they go by it during the summer months. But the reality is that the 'Yukon' sign spends more months of the year surrounded by snow than it does with grass growing around it. While our focus is in the Northern BC section some 100 km south of this sign, it does mark the north end of Highway 37, which runs right through our placer leases and allows us easy access to the area.

When we built these webcam enclosures out of the various sewer pipe parts last spring, we hadn't intended on having them survive outside during the winter. However, with a little well-placed insulation and the heat that the camera gives off, they seem quite happy in the cold. This one's survived up to about -45C so far (this photo was taken at about -40), so it looks like they'll be good for the winter now. This is the Watson Lake cam that's pointed to the south.
